Overview: Twenty-first century events, such as the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 and the Arab Spring, perhaps best demonstrate the themes of Worlds Together, Worlds Apart. As the world becomes more economically, politically, and socially connected, both the similarities and differences between groups and individuals come into sharp relief. Social media has not only changed the way we communicate, but provides a new venue for local, national, and global conversations about rights, citizenship and government policies. As you complete this module, consider what it means to be a citizen in a global world.
Objectives: After completing Module 12, you will be able to
- discuss the main characteristics of citizenship in a global world.
- create a cogent historical argument based on primary and secondary sources.
- present a complex historical argument in a written essay, including Chicago Style references and bibliography.

Section 1: Citizenship & Rights in a Global World
- Read Worlds Together, Worlds Apart Epilogue.
- Create a Sway outlining the top 5 characteristics of being a citizen in the global context of the twenty-first century (these may be 1 or 2 sentence bullet points). Think about how this list might be different in one of the past centuries we dicussed in this course.
- Post the Sway link to the course discussion board and the pdf to Blackboard.
Section 2: Critical Thinking and Cumulative Essay
- Complete your cumulative essay and post to Blackboard.
